Tuesday Night Training Ride - 7/29/2014

Make plans to join the team this Tuesday, July the 29th for the next episode of "UBD Tuesday Night Training Ride - Riverfront Edition".

We will gather at the Riverfront trailhead (Biddle St & N Leonor K Sullivan Blvd Saint Louis, MO 63102) by 5:30 PM and plan to be rolling by 5:45 PM.  There is construction near the Arch grounds, so allow yourself extra time to get there and do be certain to let me know if you are coming.

  • We try hard to keep the Tuesday night ride, especially, comfortable for everyone.  Fast, slow, young, old - the Tuesday night ride has been a popular weeknight training option for several years now.  While not exactly a "no drop" ride, our faster and more experienced riders are happy to dart ahead and circle back.
  • The full route will be about 27 miles and relatively flat.  We will be doing an "out and back" configuration on a dedicated bike trail (no roadways) so riders just getting their legs this year should feel comfortable turning around at any point without fear of being alone.
  • Attendance has been steady this year.  We had 14 last week (though only 13 riders)!
  • Since there is IS NOT a Cardinal's home game this week, we will conduct our post-ride wrap-up at Syberg's downtown location located at 2211 Market Street.  www.sybergs.com/LOCATIONS/MARKET.  If you can't ride, feel free to join the group about 8:30 PM and help support those who support us.
Below are links to Google maps for the meeting place.  We will continue to hold weekday training rides every Tuesday and weekend training rides on Saturday mornings throughout the summer until the 2014 Bike MS: Express Scripts Gateway Getaway on September 6th & 7th. Make sure to follow the United by Design blog for more information or join the Team UBD Facebook Group  to stay up-to-date on all the team happenings.

Wednesday Kirkwood Training Ride - 7/23/2014

Join us this Wednesday, July 23rd, 2014, at 6:00 PM, for another Wednesday Night Training Ride!

The Wednesday group will be riding out of Kirkwood Park tennis courts parking lot again (image of parking location below).  Please try to be there 10-15 minutes early so we can be rolling by 6pm.  We had a great group last week of 12 riders and a couple new UBD attendees that joined us for the first time this year, so it’s never too late to come out and make your inaugural Wednesday ramble.

This is a no drop ride that averages 16-18mph on a typical night and takes us on 26 miles of mostly rolling terrain on the roads from Kirkwood to Chesterfield and back.  As the heat and humidity rise, there is always the option of a slightly shorter route of about 22 miles you can take if you’re just not feeling it on a given night.  Afterwards, there is a chance we will stick around for beer and Gatorade while we catch our breath and replenish those fluids.  Route map of the typical route is below, the 22 mile route knocks off about 4 miles on the out and back on Outer 40:

·         While the Tuesday night ride has proven to be a great opportunity for all levels of cyclists to get out on a dedicated bike trail, we wanted to offer the Wednesday night Kirkwood ride to those looking for a higher tempo workout.  It’s always a no drop ride so nobody will be left behind, but it’s important you be comfortable cycling in a group on the roads.

Looking forward to riding with you!

Weekend Training Ride - 7/5/2014

Come join us for a special 4th of July weekend training ride on Saturday, July 5th, at 7:30AM.

The team will ride from Ferguson Brewing Company (one of our MS150 sponsors) through downtown STL over to the MCT Trails. These are flat trails that offer multiple loops and plenty of shade.

We estimate that we will do about 40-50 miles starting with Schoolhouse trail and circling around to the MCT nature Trail and back to Ferguson for lunch and refreshments. This is only an estimate since we've not clocked this route. We promise it will NOT be 70 MILES like last weekend!
Please join us for some fun riding and good eats. We hear the chicken wings are to die for.
